Oregon Translation, LLC, is pleased to announce that, in the month of June 2009, we have been awarded several large contracts with five prominent businesses and non-profits. This extremely busy month seems to only predict how busy the remainder of the summer months will be, a very nice change from the eerie quiet of April and May.

Oregon Translation, LLC, is excited to announce a close collaboration with BPE Global (specialist in import/export regulations – www.bpeglobal.com) to provide online training for AT&T’s operations worldwide (www.att.com). In this 16-language, multi-phase project Oregon Translation will spearhead translation, editing, audio recording, and localization for on-screen display text and a synchronized audio script. Oregon Translation is managing approximately 80 language specialists to provide this comprehensive service. Oregon Translation just completed Phase 1: translation + editing + proofreading (TEP) for Chinese (4 dialects), Czech, Dutch, French (2 dialects), German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Slovak, and Spanish (2 dialects). Next week, we are scheduled to begin Phase 2: foreign language recording for the audio scripts in all those languages. Due to the specialty software involved, BPE Global will compile the written translations and audio recordings internally. In early August, Oregon Translation will perform localization testing by native speakers of each dialect to ensure that the whole slideshow was assembled properly and that the visual display is correctly synchronized with the audio track. Both companies are enormously thrilled with this huge contract from AT&T and with the smooth progression of work thus far.

As French real estate investment leader, Gecina (www.gecina.fr), works to attract a broader Anglophone audience to purchase and rent their multitude of real estate properties in Paris and Lyon, it has realized a need to localize their Web sites to attract an American audience. In mid-June, Oregon Translation was awarded a large contract to provide a U.S. English version of the entire Web site for http://www.locare.fr, a holding of Gecina. This is a subcontract from language industry giant Translations.com. In addition to the high volume of words to be translated from French to English, what makes this particular award stand out is that Translations.com has assigned to Oregon Translation the full cycle of translation + editing + proofreading (TEP), whereas usual procedure is to assign different translators for each individual step. Translations.com indicates that there will be ongoing demand to translate additional Web content for Gecina and to perform localization testing on the compiled Web site(s).

On June 30, Oregon Translation was awarded a contract for English to Spanish translation + editing of a 35-page parent handbook for the Albina Head Start Program (www.albinajobs.org). This translation is intended for Spanish-speaking parents in the Portland Metro area who rely on the Head Start Program to care for and educate their young children.

Mercy Corps NW (www.mercycorpsnw.org) has signed a contract to have Oregon Translation produce a Spanish version of a personal finance handbook. The English version of the book was jointly authored by Mercy Corps and Western Union Foundation (the charitable arm of the financial company). Mercy Corps intends to immediately distribute the Spanish book in Oregon and Washington, with future plans to reprint and distribute it throughout Latin America via Mercy Corps regional offices. Oregon Translation will spearhead English to Spanish translation, editing, graphic design, proofreading, and print pre-press.  This undertaking falls very nicely on the heels of the 15-hours of micro-finance training films that Oregon Translation finished transcribing + translating (Spanish, Tagalog, Ganda, and Swahili to English) in May for filmmaker Kwamba.

In the sphere of international aid, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM www.theglobalfund.org) has begun the Round 9 Request for Funding, which will last all summer (throughout the African rainy season). For the last five years, Oregon Translation has been heavily involved in translating grant applications from 15 governments in Francophone Africa and Latin America. The fundamental goals are to strengthen health systems and to prevent and cure these three devastating diseases that directly cause so much poverty. Since 2006, Oregon Translation has translated 400,000 words for the Global Fund, including a proposal from Côte d’Ivoire (completed on June 29, 2009) and one from Djibouti (in progress).
