How much does it cost to translate a document?
Oregon Translation is always happy to provide time and cost estimates suited to your particular needs. Our prices vary a little depending on our customer's requirements and texts. In order to give you an accurate quote, we would need to know answers to the following questions. We could quickly determine the answers to half the questions by simply viewing the document.
- What language(s) are we translating to and from?
- How many words are contained in the document?
- What file format is the document currently in, e.g., MS Word, InDesign, hardcopy only?
- Would you like us to typeset the translation for you?
- What subject matter(s) is(are) discussed in the document? Technical, general? Legal, business, medical, scientific, etc?
- Do you have an ideal timeline in mind for completion?
The number of words in a document often has the greatest influence on the final cost of any translation since it directly correlates to how much time the linguists will spend on your translation. The target language of the translation also has a significant impact. Generally speaking, languages that are more broadly spoken are lower cost than those languages that are more rare. The file format will help us determine your need for typesetting and the complexity of the typesetting may affect the cost. Highly specialized subject matter often requires linguists to spend more time researching terminology. As a general rule, more time spent equals more cost. Finally, if you need your project to be completed on a rush basis, we can accomodate you however we do charge a rush fee which impacts the overall cost of the project.
