Do I need a translator or an interpreter?
Translators work with written documents. If you have a document in one language and would like it to be in a different language, then you need a translator. On the other hand, if you are planning a meeting with speakers of two different languages, then you need an interpreter. While the language abilities of translators and interpreters are very similar, there are major differences in how this talent and training is applied in speaking versus writing. Most translators do not interpret and most interpreters do not translate. Although Oregon Translation focuses on the written word instead of the spoken word, after 14 years in this industry, we may just be able to refer you to a suitable interpreter if you write to us explaining your need. There is no charge for referrals; we're happy to help when we can.
